The Fredericton District Soccer Association is a non-profit soccer club in Fredericton, NB. Our mission is to provide all players in our community the opportunity to reach their full potential as people and soccer players through a positive soccer experience.
Position Overview
FDSA is seeking a qualified individual for the full-time, permanent position of Technical Programs Manager. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Technical Programs Manager will oversee the coordination and operation management of all FDSA soccer programs in alignment with the club’s technical plan and the vision, mission, and values of the club. The position will support the Director of Soccer Development with effective delivery of on-field activities and programs, and coach recruitment and development.
The Technical Programs Manager will provide support on administrative operations such as managing the technical budget, inventory, field and facility operations, volunteer resources, and information sessions on FDSA programs.
The successful candidate must have a passion for working with volunteers and supporting youth sport.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Programming and Technical Leadership
- Coaching and leading grassroots programming (target age 7-12 years old), with a key focus on managing technical coaches and the association’s Skills Centre programs
- Contributing to the growth of the long-term revenue of the club by expanding and improving the performance of our programs, camps, clinics, etc.
- Creating program schedules and coordinating necessary facilities to achieve the club’s mission and goals
- Establishing a technical budget required to support FDSA programs
- Coordinating and managing club inventory and identifying necessary purchases aligned to the club’s technical budget
- Assessing and supporting educational requirements for all club staff and volunteers
- Collaborating with and supporting the Director of Soccer Development on all relevant projects as assigned
Personnel Management
- Recruiting and training program specific technical coaches
- Supporting the delivery of FDSA programs by supporting and mentoring club coaches
- Assisting with the recruitment and overseeing the work of soccer program summer students
- Working in conjunction with the Executive Director to implement a strategy to leverage existing volunteer resources to achieve club mission and goals
- Implementing and managing a strategy to ensure all volunteers are aware of and are meeting FDSA club policies
Club Outreach
- Supporting the coordination and execution (in collaboration with FDSA staff) of club events including annual events such as jamborees, soccer day, award galas, and tournaments
- Supporting the Executive Director and Director of Soccer Development with any important information that should be communicated to members in official club communications
Other duties as established in conjunction with the Executive Director, the Director of Soccer Development, and the Board of Directors may also become required.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong technical soccer knowledge and coaching experience
- Preferred certification of a B License
- Experience working with youth soccer programs
- Experience training, mentoring, and/or managing coaches and/or volunteers
Asset:
- Child or Youth License
- NCCP Coach Developer training
Essential Skills:
The Technical Programs Manager should demonstrate competence in some or all of the following:

- Relationship Building: Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, coaches and volunteers.
- Communicating Effectively: Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
- Leading People: Success in recruiting, developing, managing, and retaining volunteers and staff.
- Planning and Organizing: Planning and execution or programs, organizing events and evaluating outcomes for ongoing improvement and efficiencies. Organizing and managing inventory.
- Mission and Values: Highly ethical character with personal integrity. Be passionate about FDSA’s mission and live the values, ensuring they are consistently present throughout the Club’s programs. Ability to align staff and volunteers with the Club values.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience within the current job market. A competitive benefit package will also be included.

2024 Premiership & Division 1 Schedule & Process
Phase 1 Age Cohorts – April 8th-14th:
- Players have 4 training sessions over a week with their birth year cohort
- During this time players have the chance to get comfortable being back on the field and reconnected with all players of the same age
- FDSA Staff Coaches lead these 4 training sessions whilst team head coaches and assistant coaches observe
Phase 2 Team Specific – April 15th-21st: - For the Rest of tryouts Team coaches will lead sessions with FDSA staff coaches observing and supporting
- After observation during Phase 1 age cohorts, the coaches will place players who qualify in tryout groups for specific teams based on player registration
- For Premiership players, coaches will assign players with appropriate ability in those tryout groups
Phase 3 Team Selection – April 22nd-26th - Team Coaches and FDSA Staff coaches will work together to finalize and select team rosters for the season
- Team coaches will announce final summer 2024 rosters after April 21st
Why update the tryout process?
- Greater connection between premiership & Division 1 players and coaches, which can increase player movement fluidity during the season
- More opportunity for evaluation of teams and overall player placement
- Selection remains open & transparent, and continues to allow players to select which levels they want to be considered for
