President’s Message

FDSA President’s Message 2019-2020

Greetings FDSA Members!

My name is Amy Whytewood-Hughes and I became the FDSA President in October 2019. This year has been quite challenging but despite the hurdles, we are very lucky to be offering programs this year. We could not have managed navigating through COVID-19 without the countless volunteers, sponsors, coaches and our team of Summer Staff (Ike Phillips, Sylvie Fecteau and Rory Keys) On behalf of the Board, thank you!!

Our main goal is to offer quality programming and provide a fun-fueled environment that encourages our players to enjoy the game with their peers. Having been involved in the sport from a young age, I am true believer that we can change people’s lives through soccer. We build lifelong friendships and create a sense of camaraderie which has a significant impact on our health and community.

We have a very motivated group of volunteers on the FDSA Board of Directors and have welcomed some new faces this year, including: Jamie Rowinski (Director of Division 1 Soccer), Jason Vandertoorn (Director at Large) and Heidi Boulter (Director of Senior Soccer). We also have some Board Members in new roles. Please feel free to reach out to any of us, if you have any questions or concerns about anything FDSA related! If you want to get involved, please reach out!!

To our Players and their Families: It was a different year than the norm but we are happy to be playing the beautiful game in whichever capacity we can. Thank you for sticking with us this season!  Stay tuned to our Webpage for program information! If you haven’t already- check us out on our Social Media Pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) you never know what may pop up!!

Some great things have happened this year. Our Club Head Coach, Barry Morrison has moved from Assistant Coach of the UNB Men’s Soccer Team to Head Coach. We are happy for the opportunity to tighten our relationship with UNB and are very excited for Barry in his new role! We have also moved to a smaller office near Scotia Bank South Soccer Field. Thank you to our former landlord and constant FDSA Supporter, Bob Hatheway for the use of 150 Smythe Street!

I would be amiss if I didn’t say that our programming would not be possible without the tireless efforts of our Club Head Coach Barry Morrison, Executive Director Dennis van den Heuvel or the countless volunteers that our Club relies on. Thank you for your commitment and hard work!

I look forward to seeing everyone on the pitch as we continue to strengthen and grow the FDSA!

Stay Safe!

Warm Regards,

Amy Whytewood-Hughes – FDSA President
